Finding a Doctor

Getting the Help You Need
There are many people and organizations out there that are professionally trained to help you in your recovery. These include mood disorder clinics, doctors and therapists. Once you have a diagnosis and have found a health professional to walk you through your recovery, you will begin to feel better. Don't get discouraged; finding the right treatment plan can be a long and at times overwhelming process. Take your time and, remember, you can get better.

Talking with your doctor is the first step in getting help for your mental health concerns. The Check-up from the Neck Up screening quiz is not a diagnosis, it's intended to raise awareness about mental health concerns you should discuss with a doctor. You can discuss potential counselling services, psychiatric consultations or medications that may be appropriate for you. Your doctor can also make referrals to a variety of local services.

Below are some organizations that can help you find a doctor in your community.

Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA)

The Canadian Mental Health Association has branches that provide mental health programs and services for individuals and communities across the province. Many branches may also provide information and advice for people with mental illness, their families, and friends who need help finding a family doctor, psychiatrist, therapist, or other health care professional, a family or consumer support group, or other mental health resources.
